paajust a wild theory there was a ripper letter around on the 17th sept 88 but the first letter was sent 27th,one year later 27th 89 the only letter received was one stating i give you my occupation i am a member of the clergy.could this be the right track to follow remember a witness said he heard a man say to stride you will say anything but your prayers;also she was killed close to the swedish church and what about the pastor of the church strange entry for the 30th sept mentioning the name jack the ripper before the papers surely not johannis palmer. regards richard

HI TREVOR
who is pastor jack gibson? religious mania could be the motive for these killings ,a highly religious person could see prostitution sinful.
one intresting point is the numbers game the number 39 . a quick briefing incase you are not familiar with this strange mystery. martha tabram stabbed 39 times aged 39, polly nicholls 31st aug annie chapman 8th sept= 39 stride+ eddowes 30th sept , mary kelly 9th nov = 39 even 26 dorset street room 13 = 39 also barnett moved in with kelly 9th april 87 ,and left on the 30th oct88 =39 . mayby barnet was that religious person we know from the inquest he stated he wanted mjk to attend mass with him like they used to .attending mass does not of cause make him a religious maniac . my personal theory is when barnet and kelly moved to millers court some months earlier things started to go out of control , barnet losing his job; mjk resuming prostitution ,the rest being history on these boards. one i think intresting fact about all this is my interpetation of 39. how about the 39th psalm?if you read it it interpets something in modern day lanquage this..i pray hard that i may not speak even tho evil is before me for a while i kept my mouth shut even tho the pain and burning was inside me but the burning was too much i am weak and then i did speak my tonque may god forgive me . could that be barnets way of thinking for a while he accepted kellys past thinking mayby prostitutes needed help not revulsion , then when things started going wrong thats when he saw the 39th psalm was referring to his thoughts . thats mayby why the murders were comitted on those particular dates far fetched mayby . but not impossible nothing is in this subject
regards richard.

Trevor,

Read The Brotherhood by Stephen Knight. If you believe in the number 39 as an integral part of the case this book will blow your mind.

Pastor Jack Gibson was recently proposed by Richard Graysmith in The Bell Tower. Graysmith attempts to prove that Gibson, who was in London during the times of the 1888 murders, committed the murders of two women in San Francisco in 1895. A young man named Theo Durrant was hung for the murder of Blanche Lamont and Minnie Willimas, and Graysmith theorizes that Pastor Jack Gibson was responsible for not only the murder of those two women, but also 'JTR'.

Graysmith's book is a hard read as he very breifly and sporadically intertwines elements of the 'JTR' story within his book to boldly state the claim that Gibson was 'JTR'. Graysmith relies on two deathbed confessions and uses a source that he admits is a made up fictitious creation, an amalgam of a number of different people. To my knowledge, no one seriously considers Gibson a likely suspect.

Hi Richard & Stan,
Richard ,I think Stan has given a fairly comprehensive overview of who Pastor Jack Gibson was -- in my opinion a credible suspect, worthy of more research, which I hope to be able to undertake in the not to distant future.
I have not read the 39th Psalm ( I am a Budhist!),
but I certainly shall in the light of your hypothosis regarding the number 39.
I agree entirely that nothing is impossible in this subject.
Stan , I have a copy of "The Brotherhood " by Stephen Knight, and although I have read it I cannot recall any reference to the number 39.
I suspect I need to re-read it and pay more attention this time!!!!
However,I recall it was a fascinating book and I am grateful to you for directing me to it.
I recently aquired a copy of "a new encyclopaedia of freemasonary" by Arthur Edward Waite for only 25p in a charity shop (mint condition too !), so I will see what this contains Re:-39 .
Although I freely acknowledge that Jack Gibson has been dismissed as a suspect by a number of people,I cannot help but feel he is worthy of some more research.Anyway, it keeps me occupied on my days off,but I am prepared for it to be something of a disappointment.
Best wishes to you both,
Trevor.
