This particular syndrome is one that has been studied I believe in relation to survivors of the Holocaust.
On the Kosminski thread there is a suggestion that the cuts the ripper made were similar to those of cicumcision. This was the famed "signature" around the necks of the victims.
On the Compulsive behaviour thread there is evidence of repetitive behaviour taking place in animals which could be similar to the strong urge to masturbate that we are told Kosminski had.
The uterus trophy too might be connected to the trauma of birth.

Post traumatic stress syndrome manifests itself in various ways but one of the most frequent is to repeat the original trauma----which may be hidden from consciousness as is often the case in infant abuse.

Maybe this was why Kosminski needed to masturbate abnormally.

Maybe this was why the victims of the ripper bore "cicumcision type" cuts?

[and maybe I now need to go to the Kosminski thread]

Best Natalie.

Hi, Natalie:

Is masturbation abnormal? blush

No but seriously I don't see any relationship between masturbation, necessarily, and circumsion. Presumably you are making the link between Kosminski, masturbation, and the so-called circumcision cuts on the necks of the victims because Kosminski was Jewish. But the implication about a possible Jewish connection in the cuts, denied by the Jewish community at the time, has to do with the possibility that the crimes might have been done by shochets, or Jewish ritual slaughtermen. No one has suggested that Kosminski was a shochet or knew about their rituals, nor that he would have been familiar with circumcision practices either.

For what it is worth, it was reported by the authorities that the sort of knife used by shochet did not match the weapon used by the killer. As reported in The Ripper Legacy by Howells and Skinner, p. 22, ". . . a shochet's knife, a khalef, is a single-edged weapon rather like a steel ruler, and like a ruler it is cut square at the end. Expert opinion, on the other hand, was in total agreement about the kind of weapon used by the killer--a sharp-pointed knife at least five inches long."

All the best

Chris

Hi Christopher.Ofcourse its normal but not 24hrs a day which was implied.
No its not what I meant.Post Traumatic Stress has several manifestations but a common was is the repetition of the original trauma in this case acircular cut in the penis that can cause trauma and prsumably one manifestation could be an obsession with the genitals which a baby could have had-fingering himself which brought relief and comfort. Abuse victims often repeat the trauma-on other people!-years later and go on repeating it.Best Natalie
