Hi everyone,

Was the ripper a lust murderer?. May I quote the following extract?:

“Sexual Homicide.[…] the sadistic murderer kills as part of a ritualised sadistic fantasy (Ressler et al). Mutilation is “overkill”, obsessively injuring the victim’s body far beyond what it necessary to kill the victim. Because psychopaths have a low arousal rate, it takes more to stimulate them. Macabre mutilations excite the lust murderer. For them, killing triggers a bizarre sexual fantasy which had developed in the dark recesses of their warped minds. Ressler writes “since his sexual history is that of solo sex, and he finds interpersonal relationships difficult, if not impossible, he reverts to masturbatory acts even when a real partner (his victim) is available. Masturbation generally occurs after death, when his fantasy is strongest.” […] Those pesky personalities that serial killers find so troublesome in their victims explains why they go to such extreme lengths to depersonalize the bodies of their victims with horrifying mutilations.” (What makes serial killers tick? By Shirley Lynn Scott)

I think the last sentence is very appropriate, in my opinion, to explain the horrible mutilations in the case of Mary Jane Kelly.

Best regards
Jose Carril

Hey Jose

I am kind of in dubio about the ripper being a lust killer. I personally have a gut instinct telling me that the ripper was not out for lust but saw his gruesome "work"(if I may call it that) as a mission. Of course this is only personal speculation and a lot of people may disagree with me.

The fact that all these ladies were mutilated in the vaginal area and in some cases part of the vagina and uterus were taken away or damaged does however point towards a lust killer or someone with some serious (mother or ex-lover?) issues. Just thinking out loud really.

The only two murders in which facial mutilation was a case were Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly. There are things to say about both types of murder and we will most likely never find out the true motives of the ripper or who he was. And I probably speak for everyone that is interested in this case, that that is something we would all like to know :-)
