Does anyone know if there are any records of the police or anyone else interviewing the old man Waker, who lived at 29 Hanbury Street? Given that his room was right over the courtyard I am surprised that he didn't give evidence at the inquest of Annie Chapman.

Paula,

There are any number of reasons why there may be no record of this man's interview. Perhaps he was sound asleep and heard or saw nothing. Perhaps he was even away at the time.

Many years ago I was interviewed briefly by police after witnessing the "getaway" from an armed robbery. However, since I did not realize at the time what I was "witnessing" I could not remember any details and I had the displeasure of realizing I was absolutely useless to the police in solving this crime. Obviously, I was never called to give evidence and I'm sure there is no record of my interview.

Ah Andy, a likely story. I put it to you, you were actually driving the car and made up this co-ck and bull story to put the police of the scent. Mmm?

Cheers, suspicious Mark

ps The term for a male hen seems to be banned. That boggers up quite a few pub names. How odd!

Hi, Mark:

How about if we take Andrew into the back room of your local and get the truth out of 'im, eh?

It would be even funnier if I told you that my "witnessing" took place at 2AM and if you knew what had kept me out so late on a Friday night. But, we won't go there.... Suffice it to say I was in my teens.

The Victoria in Hitchin is the place. We can batter Andy with Greene King Abbot ale. Oh what a way to go!

Cheers, Mark "Mine's an IPA"

Sounds absolutely marvelous. Would that I were on the correct side of the Atlantic at the moment!
