New York, U.S.A.
3 January 1889
Two tramps giving the names of Frank Townsend and Michael Sullivan were arrested for begging on the streets this morning by chief of police Shafer. They were later sent to the Erie county penitentiary for six months by Justice Smith.Editor's Note: Francis Tumblety used both the name "Frank Townshend" and "Sullivan" as pseudonyms. There is no evidence to suggest these two tramps are connected to Tumblety, though he was in the New York area at the time.
