Apropos of nothing, I was surprised today to come across this film ("The Verdict", 1946) which is said to be based on the case of Israel Lipski. Has anyone seen it?

Here's the IMDB page:

Hi Stephen,

Hmm, interesting stuff. Can't say I've ever heard of the movie though, though since it's from 1946, that's...quite a bit before my time. ;)

I noticed that one of the actors in it was Paul Cavanagh. Unless I'm mistaking him for someone else, I'm sure I've seen or heard of him somewhere else before from the old 40's - 50's films.

The plot summary on IMDb says this:

"Plot Summary: Mr. Grodman was a respected superintendent at Scotland Yard until a mistake in an investigation caused the execution of an innocent man..."

Sounds like a pretty good film. Will see if they've got it in the video shop next time I'm there!

Regards,
Adam. :-)

Stephen...

Don Siegel is the man who helped launch Clint Eastwood as a director [ Siegel directed "Dirty Harry"...which in the unlamented bygone heydey of hippie-leftist- film critique, usually recieved one gratuitous star....where as now,it receives the appropriate consideration as a fine action thriller and often gets 3 and 1/2 stars ].

I saw this film for sale in a local Pennsylvania catalog. I may buy it. I'll let you know about it ,unless someone else has seen it.
