I remember 1988 fairly well, considering I was only 10.... it was the year I became fascinated with Jack the Ripper.

They did several movies and miniseries on TV to "commemorate" the 100 year anniversary-- I remember the Michael Caine version (still have it on tape, actually)... but there was a different documentary they released that my mom taped at the time, then watched and decided it was to over the top gorey for a ten year old.

She saved the tape to let me watch it later, but it was lost in a move. SO it is many years later and I still wonder what the show was about. I want to say it was called "The Secret Identity of Jack the Ripper," but I'm not sure. Does anyone reember this, or know where to find a copy of it? Were there any other good Ripper shows that came out at the time?

Thanks all for your help-- this site is wonderful!

Hi Natalie

From “The Jack the Ripper A-Z (page 421)

SECRET IDENTITY OF JACK THE RIPPER, THE

TV documentary by Cosgrove-Muerer Productions (Los Angleses) broadcast throughout the English speaking world with the exception of Britain, November 1988

Dramatised reconstructions of the murders were slotted into deliberations by a panel of experts from Scotland Yard, the FBI, the Milton Helpern International Institute of Forensic Sciences and the British Bar, under the chairmanship of Peter Ustinov……………………The panel unanimously voted for Kosminski………………..A video version has been released.

Hope that helps.

Greetings-
I have been looking for a copy of the 1988 Michael Caine version of Jack the Ripper for along time. I too had taped it at the time but lost it in a move. Does anyone know where I can get a copy that is playable in North America?

Regards
Ken
