Kentorrich was a resident of No. 38 Berner Street, a house which adjoined Dutfield's Yard on the south side. Although the murder of Elizabeth Stride occurred just yards from his home, he heard nothing until 3.00am, when the crowds of curious onlookers had become excessively loud.
