Sir,-Foreign handling of our fancy titles often contributes to their inward meaning. Many years ago the Jack the Ripper murders appealed much to domestic classes in Italy, where I was then staying, and "Jack (pronounced 'Yack') lo Sventratoro" was constantly on their lips.
