The capture of Jack the Ripper

An English newspaper has published the following news about the capture of the mysterious assassin of Whitechapel.

A doctor, named Jorbes Winslou (sic), says he is completely confident of capturing jack the Ripper within a few days. Dr. Winslou says he possesses a pair of boots with guttapercha soles, used by Jack the Ripper, which are soaked in blood, and also a coat, which he assures us belonged to the killer who lives in the house of a woman who works for the doctor and whose belongings (the boots and coat) were left in the house a few days after the discovery of the Pinchin Street crime. The woman swears that on the morning when the unfortunate woman Mckenzie was killed (17 July) she saw him washing his hands in the yard of the house. He had stains on his shirt and his look was furtive. This happened at about 4 a.m.

Jorbes Winslou said he is waiting for a telegram which will remove the only obstacle which prevents the mysterious assassin already being in the hands of the police.

He has also asserted that he has accomplices or that the authors of these crimes are two in number, that he has his reasons for believing this to be so, though he cannot reveal these. He said that the police do not have to intervene in any way in his capture, that he will take six men to the place where he knows him to be and he will be conveyed to prison.

This news has little appearance of truth, seeming to some as the product of Jorbes Winslou's fantasy; but there are those who are confident the doctor will succeed where the police have been unable to, handing the mysterious assassin over to justice.
