Pretty please, could anyone supply a definitive and final answer to this question? I've searched in Begg, Rumbelow, Sugden and a few other legitimate sources, and can find no mention of the old story of Aunt Nora O'Brien getting a letter from Mary (postmarked from Canada) a couple of months AFTER the Mitre Square murder. It sounds rather apocryphal to me. Is this just a hoax that perhaps originated from the suspicious Abberline diaries? Or is there something to it?

The eyewitness sightings of Kelley AFTER the time of her murder always bothered me. And then there's the fact that both Tumblety and Chapman fled to North America shortly after Mitre Square. But, like I say, this sounds like just another Ripper myth to me. So it would be nice to clear this one up one way or the other!

(Does anyone remember the old story H.L. Menken told about fabricating a history of the bath tub, and then finding out, years later, that it was quoted as fact in many news articles and even found its way into an encyclopedia? Disturbing stuff for researchers...)

G'day R.J.,

I remember reading about Marys Aunt getting a Christmas Card from Canada. This was in the book: 'The Ripper And The Royals', which I was told is based on the suspicious 'Abberline Diaries'.

The 'Mary Kelly letter from Canada' is another fiction.
