Hi Michael
Yes, that's a good point particularly if you favour the Tumblety theory. I tend to think however, that if the Ripper was at sea during October it was because that was his profession. I also think that if that was the case he was more limited in his travels probably around Europe.

I'm wondering if exposure to the elements at sea, wind and salt water on a Cattle Boat and maybe sun if he travelled somewhere warmer led to his unusual complexion? I was reading on one of the other message boards where someone was postulating that the blotchy faced man (with a pail of beer) seen with Mary Kelly was the same individual as the sunburnt man who attacked Ada Wilson. Additionally a number of witnesses referred to a fair complexion which may indicate bleached looks due to an outdoor occupation. This was seven months later than the Wilson attack so these thoughts are somewhat tenuous.

Hi Kev,

It just so happens that I have discovered a cattle boat slaughterman who appears to be a valid suspect in the Whitechapel case. I have published two articles on this man, Arbie La Bruckman, and they are both archived in the "Dissertations" section of the Casebook. My article, "The Ripper in America" is the more up-to-date of the two. It also just so happens that La Bruckman is being discussed in the "Chatroom" tonight. I would listen in if I only knew what 8 P.M. CST is.

Best Regards,
Mike

8 PM CST is 8:00 PM Central Standard Time in the US. It is about 6 hours behind GMT. An early-rising Stewart Evans often joins us in chat about 10 PM CST, or 4 AM his time the next morning.

We welcome all who are familiar with La Bruckman and Anderson, as both appear to be excellent albeit obscure candidates for the Whitechapel Murderer.

Hello all,

I've only scanned through some of the posts above, so I apologize if the following has already been suggested, but I think their are two likely reasons for the Ripper's October hiatus, the obvious being that the East End was swarming with police patrols and detectives - amateur and professional. Another likely reason is that a heavy fogged settled over London for most of October, and visibility was limited. The first reason is lent considerable weight by the fact that his next victim (Kelly) was killed indoors. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Yours truly,

Tom Wescott

Hi Michael, Tom and all

I've just read Michael's article on Arbie La Bruckman and very good it is too! Some very interesting information on Police behaviour as regards Cattle Boats on the Thames which I have never seen anywhere else. This indicates how interested the Police were in the sailor thing and whilst La Bruckman is a good candidate may relate to others too. Thomas Sadler for example.

I was also interested to see the similarities in the Miniter description of the attacker and those of witnesses in Whitechapel. If this was La Bruckman it re-inforces his canditure.

On Tom's point about the reasons for JTR not killing in October, whilst the heat was on and the place was awash with detectives of all types, I would postulate that the reason Mary Kelly was killed indoors had more to do with the fact that she was a cut above (no pun intended) the previous victims. She was younger, more attractive and consequently liable to earn more. As a result she had a place to take clients and there is even a suggestion that she was run by a pimp. I suspect the only reason that she was killed indoors was because she took clients back to her room, which suited JTR only too well.

Regards
Kev

Maybe he was on holiday. Even serial murderers need time off. Picture it, Jack on the beach with his top hat on, sipping a tropical drink with little umbrellas in it.

I prefer the idea that he was deathly afraid of everyone's favorite doggies, Barnaby and Burgho.

Hi all,

A possibility is that the killer left the area or was arrested for an unrelated crime shortly after the Eddowes murder and that Kelly was murdered by someone else.

Perhaps he was a Muslim, and had to give up his dirty habit for Ramadan. Would also explain...

a) Why he needed to get 2 in on the last night of September

b)"The Juwes are the men That Will not be Blamed for nothing"

Or not.
