The book "Jack the Ripper A to Z" states that the radical press, especially the Pall Mall Gazette and the Star, saw the Ripper murders as a chance to get reformer Annie Besant elected to serve on the new London County Council (LCC) and that she was, in fact, elected to the LCC. But other non-Ripper books state that Annie Besant was elected to serve on the London School Board, but NOT on the LCC because she was a woman. So which is correct? I suspect that "Jack the Ripper A to Z" has made an incorrect entry in this respect. Any help re this would be most appreciated.
