Every once in a while you hear the theory floated that some SK's with a vestigial conscience actually do things so they will be caught, like the guy who wrote on the mirror with lipstick something like "stop me, I cant help myself" or some such. The idea is that they know they cant stop but there is a part of them that hates what they're doing.

I don't know if this point of view is legitimate criminology or just makes good novels.

I started to wonder if there would be any truth at all to this idea and if so did Jack do anything along those lines.

It is possible to view the GSG in this light, almost as though he has worked up the courage to tell us a little about himself in order to enhance his chances of being caught. But maybe its far fetched.
