What was the state of the investigation at the time of Mary's death? Do we know what direction the investigation was taking? What leads and theories had been investigated and discarded? Leather Apron had been cleared. What about the sailor on a foreign ship theory? Had that already been ruled out? Do we know how strong their belief was in a murderer with medical training? Had the police focused on a working class Jew as their main theory? When no further murders occurred did they start to look at suicides and other deaths or similar murders occurring elsewhere maybe even in other countries? Just a "few" questions to get things rolling.
