Monday Morning.
It was announced last night by a news agency that Mr. Monro, late Assistant Commissioner of Police, has received a valuable appointment at the Home Office, the duties connected with which he will assume immediately. This shows that Mr Matthews has taken up Mr. Monro and is prepared to sustain him against Sir Charles Warren. Considering the important political public services rendered to the Government by Mr Monro in connection with the so-called dynamite revelations it is not surprising that he should be a persona grata at the Home Office.
The inquest on the woman brutally murdered in Whitechapel was resumed this morning. Some further corroborative evidence was given by the police, but up to the present no fresh light has been thrown upon the crime. No arrests have been made. Inspector Helson believed the woman was murdered where she was found. A carman named Cross first discovered the deceased, who was uncovered to the knees. The inquest was adjourned for a fortnight.
