Mary Russell

Witness at Emma Elizabeth Smith's inquest.

Lodging house deputy at 18 George Street at the time of Emma Smith's attack.

In her inquest testimony, she stated that Smith had been lodging at 18 George Street for 18 months. At about 7.00pm on the evening of 2nd April 1888, she had seen Smith leave the lodging house in good health, but she returned between 4.00 and 5.00am the following morning suffering from terrible injuries. Smith told Russell that she had been attacked by three men who also robbed her.

Accompanied by lodger Annie Lee, they went to the London Hospital, passing the spot where the attack took place.[1]
