Casebook Review:

The author analyzes narratives of sexual danger that circulated in late-Victorian London. She focuses mainly on Victorian journalism, including W.T. Stead's 1885 exposes of the London traffic in young girls, media representations of Georgina Weldon, a spiritualist who narrowly escaped her husband's plot to have her committed, and newspaper coverage of the Jack the Ripper murders. She also draws on novels, music-hall songs, memoirs, and the writings of social reformers. Recommended.
