Casebook Review:

Much of Caputi's Age of Sex Crime is either devoted to the Ripper, or spent in comparing the actions of modern males to those of the Ripper (if only figuratively). Her thesis is more or less that the idea of "Jack the Ripper" is an encapsulation of all the hatred and jealousy men subconsciously harbor toward women - hence the perpetuation of the myth through to the modern day. Her work has a great deal of merit, but is marred by several hyper-feminist precepts which can only be classified as "anti-male." Nevertheless, a very different and scholarly feminist perspective. Recommended.
